We’ve Moved!

Hello All! We’ve decided to move to our own dedicated site so that we can make the overall experience of RCS better for everyone. This site won’t be removed (at least not any time soon), but it won’t be updated either. If you want to continue to follow us (and continue to find new music), head on over to http://www.raincitysounds.com.

Thanks for your support!

Saint Motel – Ace In A Hole (Wize Remix)

Happy Friday! Fridays are already a wonderful day of the week and sometimes everything comes together to make those days better, in my case that is because a) it’s sunny in Vancouver; and b) I found my soundtrack for the day. Parisian  Wize‘s remix of Ace In The Hole by SAINT MOTEL will warm you up regardless of what the temperature is outside. This song is light, delicate, and uplifting – perfect for anyone in cold weather.  If you like what you hear, head over to Wize‘s soundcloud page for more of his amazing remixes and some free downloads, and make sure to give him a ♥ over on Hype Machine.

Cash+David – Funn

I can tell you that Cash+David are going to be my newest new-music crush. The brand new duo (swoon), which I know nothing about, describe their first song, Funn, as like “Singing ‘Like A Virgin’ in a desert karaoke booth, with Sleigh Bells on percussion and M83 on guitars.” If that doesn’t motivate you to give these guys a listen, I have no idea what will.

Marian Hill – One Time

Electo-Soul duo Marian Hill are at it again, this time with the silky smooth One Time. The duo, who co-write the lyrics to all their songs, blend Jeremy Lloyd’s incredible low-fi rhythms and melodies with the sensual vocals of Samantha Gongol to create this beautiful electronic R&B track. I have no better way of describing this song: it’s scotch-on-a-yacht music.

Rezonate – Canvas

Rezonate, the latest member of (what I like to tall) the Under-20-Too-Good-For-Their-Age club, recently released his new EP Prelude. Showing off his musical talents, the Toronto native demonstrates both his skills as both producer and composer. Canvas, my favourite from the EP, begins with delicate vocals and a tame beat but progresses into a heavy electronic chorus that took me by surprise. This song is both relaxed if you need it and energetic if you don’t.  Check out the full EP if you want 20 minutes of bliss

Strange Talk – Morning Sun

Happy Monday! If you, like me, always have a wonderfully difficult time getting through the tail-end of your Mondays then fret not – Strange Talk has you covered. Morning Sun, which premiered over on Indie Shuffle earlier today, is just the kind of track to get your spirits up, put a hop in your step, and a smile on your face as you wind down the hours on the week’s most disliked day. You can get through today, and some sweet tunes can help.

Laura and Tom Misch – Follow

It may be because I watched Safety Not Guaranteed on Friday, or pure coincidence, but both weekend tracks have been about creating your own direction. I’ll let you decide. Laura Emma Misch starts of with some sultry sax that sets you in a quaint jazz cafe. Throw in brother Tom‘s guitar, drums and creamy, soulful vocals and you have a beautiful track that sweeps you away under the current.

Sohight & Cheevy – Night Ride

Regardless of what your plans are for Friday, chances are pretty good there will be ample opportunity to dance – whether it’s at a pre-party, the main event, or (if you’re like me) while you’re making dinner. Night Ride, from Russian duo Sohight & Cheevy, is about as funky as it gets. Groovy synths, plenty of hand claps, funky bass, and a sax solo that may as well be straight from a George Michael song are all sure to get your body moving.

Metronomy – Love Letters

As the weeks count down to the release of Metronomy‘s newest album, the UK-based band has given us another single to whet our appetites. Love Letters, the title track off of the followup album to 2011’s The English Riviera, sounds little like their previous single, I’m Aquarius (a song I’m still trying to wrap my head around). With piano riffs abound, Joseph Mount’s vocals, and a soaring trumpet solo towards the end, this song feels like a tribute to classic Bowie. Love Letters is out March 11th through Because Music.
